HEFCE fund slash likely to cause 400 jobs cut

Again i seem to be the bearer of bad news. Crying

The Higher Education Funding Council for England have released funding figures for public funding next year, which see reductions in funding for more than three quarters of UK universities.

    In a breakdown:

LSE will see a reduction of 8.3%.

LBS will have to cope with a 13.9% cut.

Courtauld will be affected by a 12.9% decrease.

The union claims that UCL used an expected decrease in its grant as a premise for cuts, but is in a “sound” financial state, with cuts being “motivated by a Management political agenda.”

UCL has announced that it is seeking to make £20 million in savings, which UCU claims would put up to 400 jobs are at risk.

I read about this happening a while back. where 25 000 people will be made redundant by 2014. With this, its going to mean less students, less teachers, and even less graduates to fill jobs in future. dont you agree?

This isn't good news is it really/ I mean who would want to have to go through that? Its awful to think education is an area that will be affected by all these cuts but then i guess that no one gets away from it all or do they?

I mean everything seems to be suffering to me!

But you make a good point here - there will be a lot less graduates if this does happen and I think it will have the opoosite affect to what you think though - as if we have all these young people around not going to university etc... There will be a lot more strain o the economy through benefits etc... Maybe joining the ary or something should be compulsory?
