Graham Onions took 5 for 38 on his debut to put England firmly in charge of the first Test, as the West Indies were forced to follow on at Lord's.
The Durham seamer was ably supported by spinner Graeme Swann, who took 3 for 16 as the Windies collapsed to 152 all out, losing their last eight wickets for just 53 runs.
That gave England a first innings lead of 225 after the hosts had earlier put on a further 88 for the loss of their last three first innings wickets, finishing with a total of 377 all out.
After the Windies were skittled out in just over two sessions of play, Andrew Strauss had no hesitation in enforcing the follow on.
At the end of play today the West Indies were on 39-2.
