beat-a-max:I hate it when people start harping on about how the smoking ban was brought in to protect the health of the workers! I mean what a load of ***! When the law was passed there were jobs aplenty in all sort of fields. If you wanted to work in a bar then you worked in a bar smoke was just part of the job. If you didnt like a smokey atmosphere then you could go work somewhere else!!! i mean its not like its a vocation to work down the local boozer! get a bloody job in a factory packing or driving a van!! everyone goes on like it was an infringement on workers rights to a healthy work environment but they forget that these workers chose the environment they were working in to start with!
I have managed bars in London for some years now - not some scuzzy 'local boozer' and had a massive team to run - i chose this career as it is i enjoy the social side of it. I sat and passed my licencing exams along with many other exams so please dont insinute that just because people work in bars that they are stupid and the only other forms of work available for such workers are lifting boxes in a factory ( if you can get me a job at the factory where you work - that would be great LOL ) or driving a poxy van.....
The ban is not just here to protect the workers its here to protect everyone ( i am a smoker by the way and have no problem standing outside ) but familys who come in for food don't want cigar smoke plumned over their children from someone sitting at the bar / another table.
In most every day working life there are all sorts of new health and saftey issues that have been bought in by the government that we all have to deal with so moaning about it will not change it.
Hair of the Dog please...
